Is the earth flat?

Is the earth flat? The Bible does not explicitly teach that the earth is flat. The shape of the earth is not a primary focus of biblical teaching. Rather, the Bible speaks about the earth and creation in terms that were understandable to people in ancient times and uses language that is often poetic or metaphorical. For example, Isaiah 40:22 NKJV says, "It is He who sits above the circle of the earth, And its inhabitants are like grasshoppers, Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, And spreads them out like a tent to dwell in." The term "circle" here is often interpreted as a general description rather than a scientific statement. The Bible’s purpose is to convey spiritual truths, moral teachings, and the relationship between God and humanity, rather than to provide detailed scientific descriptions of the physical world. Today, we understand from science that the earth is a sphere, which is consistent with observable evidence.
