Bible Verses for Christmas

Christmas celebrates the most extraordinary event in human history: God becoming flesh and dwelling among us. The birth of Jesus fulfills centuries of prophecy and reveals the depth of God's love for humanity. These verses tell the story of the Incarnation and the hope it brings to the world.

Luke 2:10-11

And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

The angel's announcement contains the essence of Christmas: good news, great joy, and a Savior born for all people. This message still resonates today.

Isaiah 9:6

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

Isaiah's prophecy reveals that the child born in Bethlehem carries the weight of divine government. His names proclaim His nature: wonderful, mighty, eternal, peaceful.

Matthew 1:23

Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

The name Emmanuel captures the heart of Christmas: God is with us. The Creator of the universe chose to enter our world as a vulnerable infant.

John 1:14

And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

The eternal Word took on human flesh and lived among ordinary people. This is the miracle of the Incarnation: heaven came down to earth.

Luke 2:7

And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

The King of kings entered the world in the humblest of settings. The manger reveals that God's greatest gifts often come wrapped in the most unexpected packaging.

Micah 5:2

But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.

Centuries before the first Christmas, Micah pinpointed the exact birthplace of the Messiah. The eternal ruler of Israel would emerge from the smallest of towns.

Galatians 4:4-5

But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.

God's timing is perfect. At exactly the right moment in history, He sent His Son, born as a human, to redeem us and make us His children.

Luke 2:14

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

The angelic chorus announces the dual impact of Christ's birth: glory in heaven and peace on earth. God's goodwill toward humanity is made manifest in the manger.

Matthew 2:11

And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.

The wise men responded to the Christ child with worship and sacrificial gifts. Their journey reminds us that encountering Jesus is worth every effort and every treasure.

John 3:16

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Christmas is ultimately about a gift: God's own Son, given out of immeasurable love so that all who believe might receive eternal life.
